The “Intelligent Super Power Bank” has recently been officially put into operation in Luoyuan, Fuzhou, China. It is the largest capacitance and fastest-responding power bank in the country. This achievement comes after the completion of the demonstration project of the supercapacitor-hybrid energy storage frequency regulation system at the Huaneng LuoYuan Power Plant, in collaboration with grid integration and testing.
At the demonstration project base of the Huaneng Luoyuan Power Plant, more than ten large white boxes are arranged in a row, resembling individual power banks. The supercapacitor-hybrid energy storage frequency regulation system demonstration project consists of a 5-megawatt supercapacitor combined with a 15-megawatt lithium battery energy storage frequency regulation system. It is composed of eight stacks of high-efficiency supercapacitors and 24 stacks of high-power lithium batteries. It works in conjunction with the existing two 660,000-kilowatt ultra-supercritical coal-fired generating units to participate in grid frequency regulation.
The control room’s screen displays the real-time operational status of the energy storage frequency regulation system. This system effectively addresses the challenges of integrating large-capacitance supercapacitor energy storage technology with grid frequency regulation.
The capacitance of the “Intelligent Super Power Bank” is approximately 7,833 kilowatt-hours, which is equivalent to the total capacitance of nearly 200,000 standard power banks with a capacitance of 10,000 milliampere-hours. It can simultaneously meet the reliable power demand of nearly a thousand households for a day. While traditional lithium battery packs take about an hour to complete the same task from full charge to full discharge, the “Intelligent Super Power Bank” only requires a few minutes.
