How to Read the Capacitance on the Ceramic Capacitor

The reading method of ceramic capacitors is basically the same as the reading method of resistors. The basic unit of ceramic capacitors is expressed in farads (F), and other units include millifarads (mF), microfarads (μF), nanofarads (nF), and picofarads (pF). Among them: 1 farad = 1000 millifarad (mF), 1 millifarad = 1000 microfarad (μF), 1 microfarad = 1000 nanofarad (nF), 1 nanofarad = 1000 picofarad (pF).

The capacitance value of the large-capacitance ceramic capacitor is directly marked on the capacitor, such as 10μF/16V;

The capacitance value of ceramic capacitors with small capacitance is represented by letters or numbers on the capacitor;

the reading of the of ceramic capacitors

Letter notation: 2m=2000μF, 1P2=1.2PF, 2n=2000PF;
Digital representation: The three-digit representation is also called the digital representation of capacitance. The first two digits of the three digits are effective figures of the nominal capacitance, and the third digit indicates the number of zeros after the effective figures, and their units are pF.

For example: 102 means the nominal capacitance is 1000pF.

211 means the nominal capacitance is 210pF.

214 means the nominal capacitance is 21×10000 pF.

There is a special case in this notation, that is, when the third digit is represented by “9″, the capacitance is expressed by multiplying the significant figure by 10 to the power of -1. For example: 219 means the nominal capacitance is 21x(10-1)pF=2.2pF.
