Y capacitors are essential for both EMI suppression and electrical safety. But choosing the right one requires more than simply matching the capacitance value.
Here are 5 key factors to consider:
Safety Certification
Always choose certified Y capacitors with high insulation resistance. For high-safety applications, additional insulation requirements may apply.
Capacitance Value
Too small may provide insufficient common-mode noise suppression. Too large can increase leakage current. Select the capacitance based on system power, switching frequency, and EMC requirements.
Frequency Characteristics
Choose a Y capacitor with suitable high-frequency performance to effectively suppress common-mode noise.
Voltage & Surge Rating
The rated voltage must match the application, with sufficient margin for transient and surge conditions.
PCB Layout
Place the Y capacitor close to the power and ground connection points to minimize current paths and parasitic effects.
At JEC (Dongguan Zhixu Electronics), we provide X2, Y1, and Y2 safety capacitors for power supplies, industrial control, renewable energy, and other applications.
