During the development of power electronics and industrial control systems, engineers often encounter two common problems:
- High-frequency EMI emissions that fail EMC tests
- Insulation breakdown during high-temperature and humidity aging tests
In many cases, the root cause is not the circuit topology, but improper ceramic capacitor selection.
1. Poor High-Frequency Filtering Due to Dielectric Mismatch
Not all ceramic capacitors behave the same at high frequencies.
When Class II dielectrics such as Y5P, Y5V or Z5U are used in high-frequency filtering circuits, dielectric losses increase significantly, causing higher ESR, reduced filtering effectiveness, and excessive heat generation.
For EMI suppression and RF bypass applications, C0G (NP0) ceramic capacitors offer much lower loss and excellent temperature stability, helping maintain low impedance at high frequencies.
2. Insulation Failure Under Harsh Conditions
High-voltage ceramic capacitors used in industrial power supplies, high-voltage generators, and control systems may face surge stress, high humidity, and elevated temperatures.
Two common failure mechanisms are:
1) Overvoltage breakdown caused by insufficient voltage margin
2) Silver migration under high temperature and humidity, resulting in increased leakage current and eventual short circuits
At JEC (Dongguan Zhixu Electronics), we optimize both materials and manufacturing processes to improve reliability.
- C0G (NP0) dielectric for low-loss high-frequency filtering
- Voltage ratings up to 50kV for high-voltage applications
- Dense epoxy encapsulation and anti-migration electrode technology for improved moisture resistance
- Stable insulation performance after 85°C / 85%RH reliability testing
